We're rebuilding this site. The full toolkit returns when it's ready.

Moving abroad shouldn't be a leap of faith.

Prudent Expat helps Americans pursuing financial independence figure out where to go, what it really costs, and how to test the move before committing.

What Prudent Expat is about

The hardest part of moving abroad isn't the move. It's deciding where and how with a plan you actually trust.

Where to start

Hundreds of destinations, endless YouTube opinions, no clear answer. We work from a decision framework grounded in your budget, healthcare needs, and lifestyle, so you can narrow the list with confidence instead of scrolling.

The money math

What life abroad actually costs, how US taxes follow you across the border, and whether your portfolio is ready to fund the move. Real numbers and defined jargon, not hand-waving.

Scouting trips

How to plan recon trips that answer real questions about neighborhoods, healthcare, and day-to-day costs. Test the move before you commit years and savings to it.

Ben and Lisa

We're Ben and Lisa

We live in the US and plan to move abroad. Trips to Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and Europe, including extended stays in Mérida, Mexico and Medellín, Colombia, revealed to us that proper planning is imperative before making the move.

So that's what we write about: building a financial plan, organizing recon trips and performing your tax and healthcare homework. All of the things we're doing ahead of our move. No aspirational fluff, no social media filler, the actual work we are doing.

Where the site is right now

The itinerary builder, location guides, and coaching are offline while we rebuild them around what readers actually need. There's no email list or contact form yet, on purpose. We're heads down on the planning for our own move, and the site relaunches when the toolkit is ready.
